Ran across this big guy on the back road next to the barn and creek. My horse Montana started to run up the hill until he spotted this strange creature and then he put on his brakes as soon as he saw this guy. I am sure glad he didn't put his nose down to check this eastern snapping turtle (Chelydra serpentina) out or it could have ended very badly because this was one big snapping turtle. Did you know a snapping turtle can live 30 to 40 years and weigh as much as 45 pounds? This one was probably around 15 to 20 pounds.
Wordless Wednesday - What caption would you add to these two photos?
My name is Christina and this is what started out to be my dog/horse blog named after my dog Lexi. Slowly my blog has morphed into a dog/life/farm blog. I love to take photos of everything relating to the farm and local events. I am also a Design Junkie and love to take my old run down ranch and redesign every inch into my dream retreat. Join Lexi, myself and all the delightful creatures at Bluebird Farm and have a peek inside our wonderful world... "The World According To Lexi"
I'm not sure what my horses would do if they saw a turtle! We have quite a few rattlesnakes out here, that is bad enough! :D
